Let's
start a small web-log on the various jumps we (CaTo) are making this
year. No special stuff, just a small update on what we did with maybe
an occasional picture.
(Note that the
latest info is on top)
Oct 14
This was the weekend for something completely different... for this
year: no CF2, but doing camera work again.
New DZ: Marl in germany, filming a combined german-dutch 8way. Tom
joined the action on saturday, but had to stop on sunday because of a
terrible cold. But the camerawork was done all 6 jumps in two days, all
6 jumps from 14.000 feet... Boy, that's work. But what a weather, what
an action, and what photo's :-)
see here for a complete overview
(note: because of my website limit, the bigger pictures are not
downloaded yet, first have to find some space....)
Oct 8
we had some business to attend to in Teuge, so took our canopies with
us. And after more than 3 hours waiting for the clouds to evaporate, we
were able to make three 2-way jumps. More fun than real high-end stuff,
it is noticeable that the end of the season is getting nearer....
Sep 30
And again a negative forecase, but it ended up real
fine. Sunshine, white clouds and not too much wind. Our two german
friends Sanne and Victor came over, and we made 6 nice jumps.
Sep 22
Again a long and warm September weekend: since the weather forcast was
very good for Friday, Ca took a half day off and we arrived at Teuge DZ
around 15:00. At 20:00 we had made 4 jumps :-)
The Saturday and Sunday was again a teaching and fun weekend: weather
was surprisingly good (overcast at 13.000 feet, perfect!) and Marie
joined the two of us for some beautiful and very good 3-ways. See
some pictures at the side.
Sep 15
Nice weather, so we were at the DZ before 9:00 in order to pre-manifest
for the complete day. 6 jumps on Saturday, between the trip-up
competition jumps, made by very enthusiastic new skydivers. Fun fun
fun. Too bad there are not enough beginner-CRW jumpers in Holland to do
the same for CRW....
After a good evening, and a restless and noisy night, the first three
jumps on Sunday were lousy..... So we changed our focus from serious to
fun and made a good and fun last jump-of-the-day (before the clouds
moved in)
Sep 9
A very good weekend!
Not only a weather forecast that spoke of sunshine and nice
temperatures, but also lot's of good jumps and LOTS of fun!. We started
the Saturday with one CaTo-jump, just the two of us. But after that
jump, Maria joined us, and 16 years after her last CRW jump, she got
re-acquainted with this discipline, helped by us. The first four
jumps on Saturday were to learn the (new) techniques, and forget the
old stuff. On Sunday, with even nicer weather, she needed a couple of
jumps to 'wake-up' but jump 4 and 5 were spectacular: With Kees
joining us, we were able to make diamonds and stacks, and Maria learned
why not-to-be-close to Kees below 2000 feet :-) Like I said: it was a
very good weekend indeed!
And it had an extension on Monday. First some (sad) family business for
us, but at the end of the day, back at Teuge, we made three CaTo jumps
in the last three hours of the (jump-)day.
Aug 19
Yes, it was a long time ago. A plane that broke
down, bad weather and a garden that needed some work, and 5 weekends
later..... we were able to make some jumps again. Althought the
forecast was not good, the saterday had perfect weather and we made 4
jumps. And what a jumps.... :-) it seems tha having some rest-time in
between is good for us, stack-stack went ok, we figured out how to do
the stairstep-stairstep, so next time we can do some practise
competition-jumps, and see if we are really that good :-) or it was all
just luck :-)
Jul 15
A short weekend... just one day of jumping since pa-a had his birthday
and the sunday was for him. On saturday we started practising
stack-stack, top stays on top. It looks far more easier than it is.
Afer three jumps we think we know what the best technique is, but we
won't share it yet :-) since you'll never know if the competitors are
reading this report too :-)
On sunday we missed all the fun: in load 13 of the JMP, the turbo
engine exploded and an earlie exit was requested. The pilot manged to
bring the plane savely in one glide to the airport: Bravo Daan! But
unfortunatly this means that for a couple of weekends, there is hardly
any lit-capacity on Teuge, so we will have a short summer-break...
But: we'll be back!
Jul 1-2
Hot Hot Hot. with a temperature of over 30 degrees celsius, it was
Hot.... But we managed to make 11 jumps on saterday and sunday. First
time we used Tom's belly-cam, and the picture was good. As soona s I
have captured still I will post them. On saturday, the work-stress of
Ca was still far too high to manage some good jumps. Not even a stack
seemed to be possible. Fortunatly, after a relaxing evening eating
outdoors, and a good night sleep, the sunday jums were far better. Jump
5 almost caused a reserve ride: wih a small knot in the bridle Toms
chute was not really flying anymore. But some forced steering line
input made the knot disappear and the jump could continue.
And with bruises on Ca's feet, and a tape full of canopy-shots for Tom,
we ended the weekend.
Jun 24-25
a little late, but here is the jump report. We were also a little late
starting our jumping on saturday. This beacuse we had to make a detour
to buy a second(hand) camera, in order to make our new idea possible:
flying each with a camera, making debrief and maybe even scoring
easier, and possible without the help of a cameraman. But that's
technique, hopefully we are able to test enxt week.
Now for the jumps: after 4 jumps on the first day, it became clear that
we needed to adjust the positioning of the canopies for taking the
stairstep grip. On sunday, that worked well! Unfortunatly, the second
jump was rather wet, and we stopped for the weather and to dry our
canopies. Next week another try!
Jun 17-18
Nice weather, and possible 4 days to jump... At saterday we decided to
catsch up with some sleep, and arrived at Teuge around 14:00 As usual
this ear, it was not too busy, so in 4 hours we could made 3 jumps. We
decided to practice a new (for Ca) exit: front and back floating off
the airplane, thus being able to make a quicker pin-base. The first was
a little un0synchronised, but then we got the swung in t, and all exits
were great (and wow, that pin-base can be quick...)
On sunday we made 6 jumps, and continue to practice more some
competition-jumping. So concentrating on speed rather tahn bueaty. And
fast it was! We are still not sure if we can.will join the NKP, but if
we do.... it might be fun :-)
At the end of sunday, it became clear that jumping on monday would
be.... waiting... so we went home. next weekend we have another two days
Jun 8-9
finally nice, real nice weather, and already the friday off. So we
decided to get rid of the stress, cancell all our other meetings (too
many, at the same time) and go jumping. At Teuge, Sanne and Victor were
also there, so we joined up, and did some very nice 4-ways. On
saturday, Gerben made the 5-way complete, and again 6 very nice and fun
jumps were made. With the 5 of us, we had to improvise on the
formations, but having fun and learning to fly was the concept that
worked. Ca made one camerajump, but again the cable broke, and only
phota's were made (see here) The last
jump proved to be really fun: an inverted-kite and a double-2-step,
both went OK with nice flying and happy faces all around. THATS JUMPING
:-)
Jun 3-5
Again a long weekend (Pinksteren = Whitsun) so three
days to jump. But
again, the weather was not optimal. But with one jump on saturday and 4
and 3 jumps on sunday and monday, the weekend was not as bad as the one
before. On sunday and monday, Tom acted as CRW coach for Annemiek, she wanted to learn the
principles of CRW, not only for the C-License (5 jumps are a 'must')
but also to experience real canopy relative flight. See some pictures
of me doing a clear-and-pull (thanx sas)
On sunday, Eric and Gerben joined, so that was the opportunity for Ca to
have her first 3-way on-top formaton, and the first 'alles komt (hopelijk weer) goed' jump with the four of us.
May 24-28
4 days for jumping... we hoped. But it became 4 jumps in total... Bad
weather and lots of rain and grey clouds resulted in just one jump on
thursday and 3 jumps on sunday. Together with Eric we made the 4 CF-3
jumps. Heavy winds on sunday (40-50 knots on 10.000 ft) made the
jumping into almost a surviving experience, but at the end we had fun,
no injuries and new tales to tell.
May 12-13-14
On friday, we started with two jumps together with 7 collegues of Caren
(they did a tandemjump). The first jump for CaTo was unique: after 12
months, we made a FS jump together :-) Exit at 13.000 feet (also for
the tandems) and then a freefall more than 30 times longer than usual
:-)
Saturday and sunday was CRW day: two ways training, practising
stairstep-topdocks.
and with 4 on saturday, and 6 jumps on sunday 9including the last load)
we could not complain: lots of jumps, lots of progress and lots of fun!
May 6-7
Again the two of us. Warm weather, but strong winds, 30 knots at 500
feet, coming from the east. That means turbulence and rock-and-roll
during the landing. On saterday we made 6, but on sunday we stopped at
3: the trick of jumping is to stay jumping...
April 29-30
Only jumps for Camera-Caren: see the queensday jump report
April
1&2
First
jumps this year for the two of us. Two ways, and although jumping is
like riding a bicycle, you have to practice to remove the rust :-) but
10 jumps is a nice start
