Like last year, I will try to keep
you informed of our jumping activities with a small web-log. Nothing
fancy, just some info how and what we did in the sky
(Note that the
latest info is on top)
The end
for 2007
Althought
it is now the last day of november, and we still have one month to go
in 2007, CaTo can saveley say that jumping is over for this month.
Cold, wet and now taking time for family and friends :-)
It was a good ear, with more jumps then expected, good jumps and nice
two-ways. We had fun in the windtunnel, I had fun in my last jumps of
this year participating in the 9-way scramble.
Next year we will start when weather permits (usualy end of march). We
already made one 'date': the two of us will participate as coaches at
the Rubberducky boogy @ Teuge (May 16-18, see this link for more info in due
time.
See you anyplace anytime anywhere!!
October

And now for
something completely different: this saturday, I was on my own, and
decided to join the 9-way scramble (FS!!!) competition @Teuge. Each of
the teams would be constructed with people from three different
categories:
cat 1 : <100 FS jumps
cat 2 : >100, <500 FS jumps
cat 3 : >500 jumps
well... I could compete in every category :-) having <10 FS jums all
togethe in the last 4 years, having in total some 350 FS jumps, and in
total having >1350 jumps (so >1000 CRW jumps :-)
I do not know in which catergory i was, but I had LOTS OF FUN joining
in three jumps. At the end, our team was second (hey hey for
team-BRrrrrrrrrr) it was very cold, but it was definitly fun and to be
repeated! see the video of the day via the web site of Teuge <link>
and some photo's to the right ->
October
11-14
Still enyoing our holiday, with
splendit sunny weather for october, so we travelled again to Teuge and
continued our two-way training jumps. Again using the recorder, and we
are almost at an 8 point average (using the german-CF2 draw).
In four days we made 15 jumps, under blue skies and during a great
students-precission-event@ teuge.
October
4-5
And finally
our holiday could start. Having some luck with over 50 tandems on a
Friday, we could take the ride and made 4 jumps, most from 9000. With a
new simple trick, we can now also count our points in the two-way: I
fly with an audio-recorder, and recording each grip by shouting 'grip'
:-)
On Saturday we made only 2 jumps: the fog was very persistent. But the
overall score on both days was good: we had fun, and made a 7-point
average.
October
2nd
We were supposed to drive to Gransee (germany) and make some video and
coaching jumps at the cumulus convention (this year: cumulus WR
selection) but unfortunately work got in the way...
September
22-23
Yet another
weekend with some jumps. At Saturday, I joined some CRW friends to make
5-ways. Although the weather did not coorporate, we made 5 jumps
(2x5way, 2x4 way and one 2way) from 3500 feet.
On Sunday CaTo was in the air again, and with 3 jumps, of which the
last was a blast :-) we had a great time. looks like our two-ways are
getting into speed, so maybe... :-)
September
15-16
After all the cold weather during the week, the weekend was perfect. On
Saturday we slowly moved to teuge, and at the end of the day made 3
jumps (first time with tail pocket, thanks Kees!!)
Sunday bbegan good, but ended in cheers: jump 5 gave us 9 points in
15000
feet, as if we had trained all year (wait, we did :-)
August 31 : Peter's party
After his
marriage earlier that month, Peter and his wife decided to give a
jump-in party for friends and family, nearby Teuge. Together with henny
and kees, we decided to go for a four-way diamond. Due to clouds our
exit altitude was 4000 feet, but we were complete within 1000 feet and
Tom flew the diamond as a true pilot trough the air, towards the
landing area. at 800 feet we finally broke up. It was a memorable jump
August
11-19 Serious CF Spektakel
No
CF Spektakel in 2006, but this year the event was reborn again,
starting on Wednesday, and with the help of Henny and the paracenter
@Teuge, the event was used as selection camp for the upcoming CF WR
attempt @ Lake Wales (November 2007).
We were asked to help-out with the coordination, and especially the
camera flying for the big ways, and the coaching for the smaller,
non-selection attendees. As a warm-up, we started during the weekend
with just some two-ways and one (successfully :-) three way (me on top
of the head-of-a-diamond :-)
At Tuesday the first participants arrived from Germany and Norway, and
Wednesday, the bi ways could start. Chris Gay, Brian Pangburn and
Christoph Balisky flew over to pilot the formations, and do the actual
selection. I made some 20 jumps with camera (and photo-camera, see link) and together with Danny
and Eric, Tom made 18 coach jumps with several participants that were
not interested in the big ways and selection, but mainly in learning
and have some Serious FUN :-)
August
3-5
With a long
and sunny weekend ahead of us we drove on Friday morning to Teuge. That
day we managed to make 3 jumps, and had a nice summer-evening on the
terras of chez-kees&trees. On Saturday, we started with three
coach-jumps with Cynthia, both on a 176 (toet......) and for her a
triathlon 150. And Cynthia is now also convinced that CRW is fun
:-) The last two jumps of the day we were 'just the two of us' and we
made 2 nice birthday-jumps. On Sunday, Kees and Gerben joined us, and
in
total we made 6 jumps. The first and last with only Kees, the others
included Gerben also. And now I know: flying on top of a diamond is not
that easy: the first attempt was just too much, the second ended in a
funnel and in the loss of one shoe, and the last.... again frustration
of not getting the second grip. Well, it shows that I still have
something to learn
July
20-21
After a
good 2007-2007 meal on Friday with our best-men, we drove up to Teuge
again on Saturday and made 5 jumps in 6 hours. Although hampered by
strange activities from the pilot, we landed on the DZ each time, and
even got some extra altitude for free :-) So extra points for cynthia
:-)
Sunday became a day 'for old time sake' and training for the WR
in lake wales. The two of us played 'dummy' so Gerben and Kees could
practice their approaches. Unfortunately due to time restrictions
and the weather, we only made 2 jumps, but it was real fun!!
July 19
Finally my
colleagues and I could travel to Teuge for their first tandem jump. We
showed-off on forehand with a low-CRW jump. And after some waiting
(more people though of having a free afternoon and make some jumps :-)
all 6 colleagues made a save and exciting jump! We could jump with
them:
one freefly and one CRW.
July
14-15
a good
weekend: the weather forecast predicted a full Saturday of jumping, and
fo Sunday nice jump weater in the morning, and for my father good
birthday weather in the afternoon. So we arrrived friday evening @Teuge
and were able to use the premanifest for club-members in the early
Saturday morning. It was crowdy but we managed to make 5 jumps, and had
a nice evening. On sundaymorning, we could make two jumps before we
moved on.
July 7-8
The weekend
supposed to have started on Friday afternoon with 7 tandem jumps from
my colleagues, but due to autumn-kind of weather, the jumps were
canceled, and we went to Teuge just for the weekend and to jump with
the two of us..
Luckily the bad weather was gone on Saturday, and although winds were
high, we managed to do 6 jumps. 3 of which were our first free-fly
jumps (after the tunnel experience). Now we know that:
- time flies when you fall down
- ditters can not be heard when you
are focusing on your jump
- Free fly is more difficult then CRW
:-)
On Sunday, it was very busy, but
the manifest was great and earned some points again :-) Again 6 jumps,
but now all-CRW. More relaxing then FF :-) But we had loads of fun, and
enjoyed yet another perfect weekend!
June
16-17
How things can run differently as
expected: On Saturday we decided to go early to Teuge, weather forecast
was not great, so maybe we could make one or two jumps. At the end,
we stopped around 18:00 with 5 jumps on our record. For Sunday,
the weather forecast was promised to be better, but we ended up with
just one jump, and a lot of waiting and looking at clouds. But with 6
jumps in total it was a good weekend, and I finally am starting to get
a grip on the top-dock stack :-)
By the way: we would like to use this to give the manifest@Teuge an
extra compliment: we know we are sometimes difficult CRW-customers, but
you really earned your 33 points this weekend mark :-)
June 9
Although
the temperature was good, the weather was not that great. We only
managed to make 1 jump today, luckily we decided to make that one from
12.000 feet, so we still got some reasonable air-time. When the
thunderclouds came in, we decided to stop. Thunder and lightning do not
match with CRW...
May 30
After the
holiday in england it was tome do make some jumps @Teuge again. The
weather on the Wednesday afternoon was perfect, but there were hardly
any jumpers: the number of pilots was in the beginning even higher than
the number of (paying) jumpers. But with help from some tandems, and
the center, we manged to make 4 jumps (with 4 loads at the complete
afternoon :-) The jumps were great, doing unexpected three-ways and
4-ways just for fun :-)
May 20
This must
have been the best view we ever saw during a skydive. During a short
week-holiday in England we made three jumps at the North-West Parachute
Center in the town of Flookburgh (Cumbria) near the Lake District.
Un-British weather with lots of sunshine, not too hot or windy, and a
new airplane to jump from: an XL 750 (registration ZK-KAY), with 18
places available, going very fast to 14.000 feet (for us: 7.000 feet)
But nothing could beat the view: looking over Lake Windermere, the Lake
District, and Morecambe bay (we were warned to stay put if we would
land in the quick-sand: 999 would be called to rescue us)
We showed them a little of our CRW stuff, they gave us a very good time
with nice people and good and relaxed atmosphere: Thanx!!
May 17
Just half a
day of jumping this long weekend, but still we managed to make three
jumps as of 14:00 hours. (and 3 looooong bus-rides back to the DZ, lets
hope the bus can ride the airfield soon again...)
Two nice jumps with danny, who had to 'un-rust' before the rubberduck
boogie :-) and one two-way jump.
May 10
Tunnel-time again
:-) freefly training for each 15 minutes with martijn. It was fun, we
did some backflying again. now we feel ready for some real
air-time :-)
Queens
day
weekend
(April 27-30)
Wauw what a weekend again, and what a weather. We
managed to make 17 jumps over two full and two half-days, which is
pretty amazing for a weekend in April.
The only problems this weekend were the wind and the pilots: winds from
east-north east caused turbulence over the trees, and made landing
somewhat difficult. And all pilots needed to learn again how a
CReW-jumper wants to have it's exit: not to fast or to violent.... We
hope we have teached all pilots now the 'trick' and we will have no
more neck-pains after a day-jumping.
April 22
It's already the nicest spring ever, temperatures are up, and blue
skies are dominating the days :-) so it's perfect jumping weather (and
so think a lot of people..) It was a busy Sunday on Teuge airport, but
because of the pre-manifesting rule at the DZ, we were able to make 5
nice jumps. Hardly any wind, a new pilot that did not know were the 1
mile exit point should be (or was it because of he new and longer
landingstrip?) and shorter steering lines for me finally gave us the
feeling of last year back: formations went smooth, experiments were
again possible and we had FUN.
And with a nice visit of 4 family members, it was really a good day!
Eastern: April 7-8
This weekend was a cold, but sunny international
CRW-4 weekend: together with zanne and Victor we made some 11 jums in
two days, and practiced flying and clean docking. Something to learn
for everybody: accepting stack-docks is even after >800 CRW jumps
sometimes difficult, making a short approach is also not too
easy, and staying close to the formation can be a challenge. But having
a great time was not that difficult (staying warm was... chilling,
biting winds on 7000 feet, but overal blue skies wih some clouds...)
Mar 25
And
we flew the sky again: day-light saving time weekend (gerben did not
know until he missed the first jump) and it was one of the first
spring-day's in 2007. Although bumpy and a little chilly in the air, it
felt good to fly our canopies again together.
Mar 22
With special thanks to martijn: CaTo made on thursday
their first tunnel-jumps@ indoor
skydive roosendaal. Both of us experienced 15 minutes
tunnel-freefly. After two practice runs (belly, standup, walk around,
wow, this is different) we started practicing our back-flying. Martijn
had a hard time catching up with us :-) but we had a great time! Thanks
Martijn!
By the way, ToraTora was also there, and we only could watch and
envy.,... but hey, those guys can do nothing flying under CRW canopies
:-)
Mar 11
2007
has really started after this Sunday :-)
We made our first three jumps of this year, in a clear blue sky,
in an early-Spring weekend. Temperature was good (16 degrees), flying
skills a little rusty, but what could be expected after 6 month
of hibernation :-)
We are looking forward to a year full of nice CF jumps and also
learning a new discipline: yes, we are going to learn something
new. So keep a look at this site, and take a guess!
